We identify areas where access to quality education is lacking and, in collaboration with the local community, help to develop educational infrastructure that will improve learning outcomes.

Supporting educational development in rural Uganda

The Uganda School Project was set up in 2016 with the mission to support primary school development in Uganda through building infrastructure and educational capacity in collaboration with local actors.

Namisindwa District is located in one of the most breath-taking areas in Uganda, but suffers from a lack of access to services such as healthcare and education. Although the Ugandan government has an initiative to provide free primary school education (under the ‘Universal Primary Education’ programme), a lack of resources and undertrained teaching staff has led to low educational outcomes in many rural schools. UNICEF has estimated that 32% of children in Uganda who enrol in primary school are likely to drop out before finishing the prescribed seven years. The statistics are worse for girls and for children with any sort of disability.

During our first years we have supported two primary schools in Namisindwa District, establishing an ‘educational infrastructure’ that includes:
