Two TUSP Staff Complete Postgraduate Diplomas
In May 2026, Nangekhe Malisa and Masambu Bridget graduated from the Uganda Management Institute in Mbale, having spent a year studying for postgraduate diplomas alongside their full-time roles at TUSP.
Malisa, our Programme Coordinator, completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management. Bridget, our Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer, completed hers in Monitoring and Evaluation.
Balancing their weekend studies in what was by all acounts an intense course, whilst keeping up with the day-to-day running of TUSP's programmes on the ground, wasn't easy, and we're so proud of them both for getting through it.
Part of TUSP's strategy is to build the capacity of our Ugandan staff so that, over time, more of the organisation's leadership and decision-making sits with people based here, working in these communities, rather than with the UK side. Supporting Malisa and Bridget through formal training is one practical part of that strategic shift.
Bridget reflected that the course left her feeling more confident and competent in her role, and it also shaped how she thinks TUSP should work going forward. She said it would be best if staff were involved earlier in strategic planning - before implementation - so that decisions about how programmes are delivered come from people already on the ground - valuable feedback which we have taken on board. Malisa said the course helped her feel more able to lead with confidence and ensure accountability in her work.
The training was funded by a grant from the Northwick Trust, which covered tuition, course materials, and a small graduation celebration for their families. Both Malisa and Bridget have said they'd like to continue studying - each diploma can be converted into a full Master's degree with another year's study - and TUSP is thinking through how to support that, in line with our ethos of developing the capacity of existing staff so that they can grow with the organisation.
For now, a huge congratulations to Malisa and Bridget!
